This dharna is to remember Rohit Vemula on his 1st death anniversary and show solidarity with JNU Delhi’s missing student Najeeb Ahmed. SDPI believes that, Rohit Vemula’s death is not a suicide but an “INSTITUTIONAL MURDER” with the involvement of the BJP leaders, the university administration and the ABVP goons. It is evident that the aspiring scholars have paid the price for raising voice against injustice meted out to the Dalits, minority and other backward communities and also he was part of several other struggles. The Union Minister for Labour Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP MLC Mr Ramachandra Rao and other BJP leaders and university administration are responsible for the Dalit students’ boycott and the subsequent circumstances forcing the Dalit scholar’s death. The matter becomes evident that letters on this matter were sent to the university by MHRD. National Commission for Scheduled Castes,NCSC’s report findings state that Rohith Vemula went into depression and killed himself because he faced caste discrimination from the University authorities. NCSC also noted that Rohith Vemula stated the same in his suicide note. NCSC further said that even with regard to Rohith Vemula’s hostel accommodation and fellowship, Rohith Vemula was discriminated by the University administration which eventually led to his suicide. NCSC noted that Rohith Vemula wrote a letter to Vice-Chancellor on 18th December, 2015 stating the caste discrimination. NCSC opined that a special (new) act is a must against the discrimination faced by students not limiting itself to just University of Hyderabad but across all educational institutes all over the country. SDPI claimed on this occasion.

SDPI demands action against all the people who are involved in his suicide and also demand Central Government to enact this special act as ROHIT VEMULA ACT against the discrimination of students belonging to Dalits and other backward class.

Social Democratic Party of India, SDPI is organising protest demonstration demanding justice for Najeeb Ahmed, the JNU student who is missing since 3 months i.e 15th October 2016. SDPI is regularly protesting on this issue at Jantar Mantar in the national capital along with Najeeb Ahmed’s mother, brother and other relatives. It is to be noted that the members of saffron outfit ABVP had allegedly assaulted Najeeb Ahmed while he was in his hostel room in JNU campus. Since the very next day, Najeeb Ahmed went missing. Even though an SIT has been constituted by the Delhi police to probe the case, till date there has not been any breakthrough. It is unfortunate that neither the university administration nor Delhi Police neither registered any FIR into the alleged case of violence on Najeeb Ahmed by ABVP goons in the hostel room in the presence of the hostel warden nor was any immediate action when the issue was reported. The fact report submitted by the JNU Teachers Association evidently speaks on how the university administration spread false information regarding the case of missing student.

SDPI demands a high-level probe panel be formed and the case be handed over to competent investigation agencies to trace Najeeb Ahmed as soon as possible.

On this occasion State Vice President Devnaoor Puttananjaiah. State Secretary, Syed Zakir Dist President, Shahid Naseer SDPI Dist Gen. Secretary, Syed Dastagir SDPI Gulbarga Dist Secretary, Pritvi Raj BVS Gulbarga Dist President, Syed Nazeer Dist Treasurer, Syed Aleem Ilahi DWC member and many cadres & supporters were present.
