SDPI Slams BJP’s Hate Tactics in Murshidabad Violence, Calls for Justice and Unity

The Social Democratic Party of India is deeply anguished by the tragic violence in Murshidabad, West Bengal, where three lives were lost amid protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The unrest, erupting on April 8 and peaking on April 11–12, saw stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism in Jangipur, Suti, and Shamsherganj, tearing at Bengal’s syncretic fabric. The SDPI condemns the Bharatiya Janata Party’s divisive agenda, which has fueled this chaos through inflammatory rhetoric and false narratives, and stands in solidarity with all victims of this orchestrated tragedy. We hold the BJP accountable for stoking communal flames, with leaders like Suvendu Adhikari and Sukanta Majumdar spreading unverified claims of Hindu displacement and demanding draconian measures like AFSPA. Reports of stone-pelting against Waqf rallies, allegedly by BJP-affiliated right-wing groups, and allegations of Shamsherganj police bias toward the BJP point to a deliberate attempt to polarize communities ahead of the 2026 elections.

The SDPI rejects violence in all forms but denounces the BJP’s tactic of demonizing Muslims to exploit the Waqf protests, undermining Bengal’s legacy of coexistence. The SDPI demands a judicial inquiry to probe the violence, including BJP leaders’ role in inciting hatred. We urge the West Bengal government to provide compensation to victims, curb misinformation, and foster inter-community dialogue to restore peace. The SDPI calls on Bengal’s people to reject hate and uphold unity, ensuring justice and dignity for all.
