Easier Said Than Done
The best person in current India to say “Nurture spirit of fraternity to create an inclusive India overcoming barriers of caste, religion, class etc..” is none other than the Hon’ble former CJI DY Chandrachud. He was speaking at the Constitution Day Law Lecture organized by the Kerala High Court Advocates Association at the High Court of Kerala. The topic of his lecture was “Fraternity under Constitution- our quest for an inclusive society.”One would wonder how this gentleman who had occupied the highest judicial officer’s post in the country could be so hypocritical. It is barely a week since Dushyant Dave, the well-known Indian lawyer in an interview burst into tears referring to the disservice the Hon’ble former judge had done to the country by allowing a survey of Gyan Vyapi Masjid, disregarding the Places of Worship Act 1991 which proscribes any claims by others on the places of worship of any religious community constructed before 15th August 1947. His order has opened the floodgates of petitions seeking the survey of centuries-old Muslim places of worship. The recent tragic murder of six Muslim youths in police firing in Sambhal is a direct result of this order. He further said that “unless we embody the spirit of Fraternity, we would not be able to create an India which is inclusive, overcoming the shadows of caste, creed, religion, gender and class.” Had he adhered to these words during his tenure as the CJI, India would have been more peaceful and harmonious and a better place to live in. Let’s remember that sincerity and honesty to one’s conscience are the most valuable qualities than hollow verbosity.
