19 Sept. 2016 Vatva, Ahmedabad: A high level delegation of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) led by its National Vice President rushed to Vatva, Ahmedabad and met the victim’s family on 18 Sept. 2016.
Vatva Gujarati youths Mohammed Ayyub Mev (29) and Sameer Shaikh (36) mercilessly beaten by the so called Gau Rakshak goons accusing them of transporting cow. Ayyub succumbed to his injuries and Sameer is undergoing treatment in a hospital. The saffron goons chased the two youth in their Innova car, forcibly dragged them out of their vehicle, beat them black and blue and fled the spot. Meanwhile Sameer Shaikh slipped away but taken into protection by the police. Late Ayyub was half dead and was taken to police station where one of the Gau Rakshak hoodlums registered an FIR against late Ayyub and Sameer Shaikh, under the provisions of Prohibition of Animal Cruelty Act. Another FIR on behalf of Shaikh Sameer was also lodged against attackers, including Janak Mistry. Sameer Shaikh was put into hawalat while the Gau Rakshaks who had attacked were let free by the police.
Party Vice President Adv. Sharfuddin Ahmad slammed the police department for patronizing the Gau Rakshaks and it was not ready to register any complaint when one of the victims visited the police. He said, the police tried every trick to protect the attackers, firstly the PI Mr. Rana sided with the attackers saying the accused persons are not attackers but when the fact came to the discussion that one of the accused persons had already registered a case with the police admitting his presence at the spot of occurrence.
The police arrested some persons under public pressure. The administration did not provide any relief to the bereaved family which has suffered unbearable loss as the deceased was the sole earning member of the family. That no action was taken by the police against the accused persons and even after death the Section 302 of IPC was not added into the FIR. This led to a pubic fury and about 5,000 persons gathered in front of the mortuary. The family of the deceased refused to take over the dead body till action against the accused is taken. The police took 130 persons including a religious scholar (Mufti) were taken into custody and kept into illegal confinement for 8 hours violating their civil rights and then released.
The family members of late Ayyub dependent on him, are namely, father Is’haq, mother Meraj Banu, unmarried sister Yasmin Banu and unmarried brother Mohammed Arif and his widow with two siblings, one aged 4 years and the other aged 2 years.
Adv. Sharfuddin termed the heinous attack as an episode in the series of other occurrences being engineered in other places in the country in a short time, as 4 persons killing in Bijnor Uttar Pradesh, 2 persons killing and gangrape of 2 women in Dingerkhedi village of Haryana, 1 person killing in Delhi, all by cow vigilantes under well meditated plans and needed public actions against the growing violence against Muslims and Dalits. The brutal attacks and killings of innocents by the so called Gau Rakshaks (Cow Vigilantes) on the pretext of ‘cow protection’ are all carried out under the mindset created by saffron forces.
The delegation also visited the office of the advocate holding brief on behalf of the victim’s family, Mr. Shamshad Pathan and his colleague Mr. Imteyaz Pathan and others and also suggested the demands to be uniformly raised on behalf of the victim, so that a real rehabilitation of the family as well as subtle course for the justice may take place.
In view of the assessment the following demands must be raised in regard of providing relief to the bereaved family in Ahmedabad:
1. A compensation of Rs. 1 Crore in view of the maintenance of father, mother, widow, two children, unmarried sister and unmarried brother.
2. The family does not own any house and is in a rented place, so a government accommodation must be provided.
