New Delhi, 3 January 2023 (Press Release): Videos and images of a church being vandalized in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh are simply outrageous. They put us and our democracy to shame. These views were expressed by Elyas Thumbe, national general secretary of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
We strongly condemn the sacrilegious act by a violent mob in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur. The way a statue of Mother Mary was hit and broken shows the inhuman nature of the attackers, no matter who they are and whatever path they follow. That is certainly not pardonable, Thumbe said.

He demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators and an inquiry into the matter to know the real planners behind the destruction. The SDPI leader also condemned the attack on the Superintendent of Police, Sadanand Kumar and urged the state government to nab the attacker and ensure safety and security of places of worship of all religions.

SDPI stands for respect for all faiths and people’s right to profess and practice any religion of their choice. The recurrent attack on churches and other places of worship is a matter of grave concern, the statement read.
