As per the 19th edition of Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe 2024 report, India stands at 105th rank in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) amongst a total of 127 countries. The report reveals that 13.7% of the population in India is undernourished, 35.5% of children under five are stunted, 18.7% are wasted, and 2.9% of children die before their fifth birthday. This ranking places the country under the serious category of the analysis. India is among 42 countries that fall within the “serious” category, alongside Pakistan and Afghanistan, with other South Asian neighbours such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka showing better GHI scores to be listed under the moderate category. When those who are elected to look after the welfare of the people in the country are busy promoting hatred and divisiveness, it is no wonder that the people get into the forefront of hunger and poverty.
