Modi Government’s Confession in Parliament Exposes Reality of the ED Cases

The recent revelation in Parliament that out of 193 cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against political leaders in the last ten years, only two have resulted in convictions is a damning indictment of the agency’s misuse under the Modi regime. This shockingly low conviction rate—barely over 1%—exposes the ED’s true role: not as an independent law enforcement body, but as a political weapon wielded to intimidate, harass, and blackmail opposition leaders.

Instead of upholding the principles of justice, the ED has been systematically deployed to target those who dare to question the ruling government. The exponential rise in cases post-2019—coinciding with the BJP’s increasing control over institutions—demonstrates how investigative agencies are being manipulated to serve the interests of one party rather than the people of India.

The Supreme Court itself has raised concerns about the ED’s inefficiency, pointing out that out of over 5,000 cases registered in the last decade, only 40 have led to convictions. This glaring disparity proves that the majority of cases are built on weak or politically motivated grounds, intended to tarnish reputations rather than deliver justice. The government’s own data is undeniable proof that most ED cases are fabricated, serving political interests rather than the rule of law.

A recent and glaring example of this political vendetta is the arrest of M.K. Faizy, the National President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). His arrest is not based on legal merit but is a clear act of political rivalry, aimed at crushing voices that challenge the BJP’s authoritarian governance. The ED, instead of pursuing genuine economic offenders, has been weaponized against leaders of opposition parties and organizations that advocate for marginalized communities.

The Modi regime has systematically transformed the ED into a tool for political suppression. It is being used to silence opposition voices, suppress democratic movements, and coerce leaders into submission through fabricated cases. In a democracy, investigative agencies must act independently, not as an extension of the ruling party’s propaganda machinery.

We demand an immediate review of all politically motivated cases filed by the ED, an independent inquiry into its functioning, and strict judicial oversight to prevent further abuse of power. The people of India deserve a system where justice prevails over political convenience.
