SDPI DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ROLLBACK OF FUEL PRICE HIKE
The Social Democratic Party of India strongly condemns the Modi government’s petrol and diesel price hike of Rs 3 per litre, followed by another increase of around 90 paise immediately after the Assembly elections, exposing cynical electoral politics. Despite years of high fuel taxation during low crude periods, the government failed to provide relief, reduce import dependence, or build energy resilience against geopolitical risks. The party alleged that foreign policy alignments amid the West Asia crisis have further strained energy security.
SDPI warned that the hike will severely impact daily wage earners, farmers, small businesses, and middle class families by triggering inflation in essential goods and services. The party said ad hoc measures cannot hide long term policy failures aimed at protecting oil companies and corporate interests at public expense, and demanded immediate rollback of the hike, an end to deregulated pricing, and stronger government regulation.
