UCC: It’s Not Uniform!

The government of Uttarakhand by exempting the tribals from the ambit of the Uniform Civil Code enacted the other day in the state, is explicitly admitting that the code is not uniform, and it is impractical to implement the code for all citizens. This exemption itself makes the law invalid.

It’s just a political gimmick of BJP ahead of the forthcoming general election.

A vibe has been created that the shadow enemies of Sangh Parivar would be the losers if UCC is enacted, and anything that would harm these enemies is assured vote for the Sangh Parivar. But, a close analysis of the new law reveals that, it is the majority community that would lose many benefits they have been enjoying under their personal law.

Who are the beneficiaries or who are the losers should not be the basis of enacing laws in the country or state.

As the forerunner has pitifully failed to ensure uniformity of law to all the sections in the society, it is better they give up the idea of UCC and let the society enjoy the constitutional right guaranteed by Article 25 of the Constitution.
