Stop Erasing India’s Composite Heritage:
SDPI Slams NCERT’s Textbook Revisions
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) strongly condemns the NCERT’s recent Class 7 Social Science textbook revisions, particularly the introduction of the chapter “How the Land Becomes Sacred” and the removal of critical content on the Mughal and Delhi Sultanate periods. These changes reflect an attempt to saffronize education, erase India’s pluralistic history, and impose a narrow ideological narrative.
The new chapter selectively highlights Hindu pilgrimage traditions while sidelining the sacred sites of other religions, undermining India’s religious diversity. The deletion of references to the Mughal and Delhi Sultanate periods further marginalizes the significant contributions of Muslim rulers to India’s heritage, fostering division and contradicting the constitutional values of secularism and equality. NCERT’s claim that historical complexities cause negativity is a weak justification. Education should encourage critical engagement, not historical erasure. The inclusion of government schemes like Make in India within historical chapters exposes blatant politicization aligned with the ruling party’s agenda.
SDPI demands the immediate reinstatement of omitted historical content and balanced religious representation. We call for an inclusive, transparent curriculum review by diverse experts to protect education from ideological manipulation. We urge all citizens to oppose these regressive changes and defend the integrity of our children’s education.
