SDPI VEHEMENTLY CONDEMNS THE RAIDS MADE ON THE PREMISIS OF THE SENIOR ADVOCATE OF THE SUPREME COURT, INDIRA JAISING AND ANAND GROVER OF LAWERYS’ COLLECTIVE

NEW DELHI 11 JULY2019: Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has taken a strong exception to the high handed and authoritarian attitude of Modi government for making vindictive and unwarranted raids on the premises of advocate Indira Jaising and Anand Grover.

The Modi government in view of the prominent role of senior advocate Indira Jaising, always standing for the cause of social justice, a champion for civil liberties and successfully conducting NGO Lawyers’ Collective has always rendering yeomen service to helpless, needy and   vulnerable people. Lawyers’ Collective has been a thorn in the flesh of the government due to its intervention in the matters of public importance. The Modi government has been on a spree to demolish democratic institutions in the country. In this regard the NDA government since its formation in 2014 has been dismantling the network of all the NGO’s that have been tending the opposite views by way of punishment of derecognizing, stopping their funding and debarring them from their lawful resources and falsely alleging that, these NGO’s are involved in anti-national activities being critical to government programmes.

Lawyers’ Collective has been one of such targets, being legal pioneer in service of the country. The supreme court of India has been seized with the matter of Lawyers Collective. The matter is still pending in the Supreme Court, Lawyers’ Collective has also challenged the cancellation of its license in Delhi High Court where the matter is also subjudice, Ignoring these facts meanwhile FIR was lodged and the raids were conducted to victimise Indira Jaising and Anand Grover for being vocal against illegal actions of the government and also challenging them through legal process at various places in the country.

In these raids government also seems vindictive against the legal luminaries and their NGO, Lawyers’ Collective for taking up cudgels on behalf of persons and organisation generally being victimised by its agencies and government.

SDPI feels that after demolishing of the democratic institutions and using government machinery against activists, intellectuals and dissenting voices. In pursuance of the agenda, Modi government is further victimising the remaining champions and saviors who are still standing for just and democratic India by misusing state power so that they may be cowed down and the government may have smooth sailing to turn India into a fascist state.

SDPI repeats its stand to fully support the legal luminaires, social activists and intellectuals who are fighting for preserving and promoting the democratic ethos in the country and urge Supreme Court to take a suo-moto action to save those  who are bravely fighting for available constitutional remedies in India and want to strengthen the ‘rule of law’ in the country.
