SDPI Seeks Answers on Terror Attack, Jet Losses, and Ceasefire Deal

The Social Democratic Party of India expresses deep concern over the Modi administration’s continued lack of transparency regarding national security events following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. The Indian public has been left without clear answers — from the unresolved attack to the recent revelation by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan that Indian Air Force jets were lost during clashes with Pakistan on May 7.

The four identified Pahalgam attackers remain at large. The nation deserves clarity on why they haven’t been captured and what steps are being taken. The government’s silence, coupled with vague explanations about jet losses during Operation Sindoor, has only fueled public suspicion. General Chauhan’s limited admission — without specifics on the number of jets or details of the operation — further deepens the lack of trust. The government must disclose the scale of losses and the failures that led to them. There is also little transparency about the ceasefire with Pakistan announced on May 10. The claim that this ceasefire was mediated by the Donald Trump administration has been repeatedly denied by the Modi government — but if this is untrue, why has there been no clear explanation of the actual mediation process? Was capturing the Pahalgam attackers a condition of this agreement? If not, why? The absence of clear terms raises concerns that geopolitical optics were prioritized over national interest, leaving citizens questioning whether India’s sovereignty was compromised.

The SDPI is alarmed by the government’s refusal to convene a special parliamentary session to address these serious issues. In a democracy, national security demands open debate, not secrecy. Opposition calls for discussion have been ignored, eroding public confidence and democratic accountability.

Most disturbingly, Prime Minister Modi appears to be using these crises for electoral advantage — including his photo on railway tickets and political messaging at BJP events. Turning a grave national crisis into a political tool is unacceptable.
