SDPI Condemns Mass Killings and External Interference in Sudan’s Ongoing Conflict

The Social Democratic Party of India stands in profound solidarity with the people of Sudan, a nation engulfed in unimaginable suffering as the civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces tears through the nation’s very soul. What began as a power struggle in April 2023 has now deepened into one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, claiming countless innocent lives and shattering communities across the land. As reports from El Fasher and beyond detail the horrors unfolding, we cannot remain silent. The indiscriminate violence, marked by cruel torture, mass executions, and widespread atrocities, has turned vibrant cities into graveyards, leaving civilians as the primary victims of this senseless conflict.

Both warring factions bear responsibility for tearing Sudan apart, their relentless clashes fragmenting a once unified country and condemning it to perpetual despair. Eyewitnesses report drone strikes, machine gun fire on fleeing families, and sexual violence in displacement camps, horrors that defy human conscience. The Social Democratic Party of India expresses its deepest concern over this catastrophe, where the very fabric of Sudanese society is being unraveled by those sworn to protect it. We mourn the loss of thousands in recent weeks alone, including women and children gunned down in the streets, their pleas for mercy drowned out by the roar of war.

Compounding this tragedy is the insidious role of external forces, whose covert supplies of weapons, funds, and arms fuel the flames not in pursuit of peace, but for control over Sudan’s vast natural wealth. Gold mines and fertile lands, symbols of potential prosperity, have become pawns in a geopolitical chess game, prolonging the agony for profit. These interventions, often shrouded in denial, violate international norms and embargoes, ensuring that the conflict endures while the Sudanese people pay the ultimate price.

The scale of devastation is staggering. Over ten million individuals displaced from their homes, wandering in search of safety amid bombed out ruins and besieged enclaves. Nearly twenty four million now face acute starvation, deprived of even the most basic necessities like food and clean drinking water, as sieges weaponize hunger and cholera looms on the horizon.

It is imperative that the United Nations and Sudan’s neighboring countries act decisively to halt these mass killings and deliver urgent relief. We urge the UN Security Council to enforce a robust arms embargo, designate perpetrators for accountability at the International Criminal Court, and deploy protected humanitarian corridors without delay. Neighboring states, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the African Union, must leverage their influence in mediation efforts to broker an immediate ceasefire, while channeling resources toward food distribution, medical aid, and safe evacuation routes. The world cannot afford another chapter of inaction in Darfur’s tragic history.

The Social Democratic Party of India calls upon the global community, including India, to amplify Sudan’s plea for justice and humanity. Let us transform outrage into resolve, ensuring that Sudan’s resilient people emerge not as footnotes in history, but as architects of their renewed future.
