The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI) has condemned the reported CBI raids on the premises of well-known social and human rights activist Teesta Setalvad, who helped the victims of 2002 Gujarat pogrom in their fight for justice. Killers go scot-free and the people who speak against them have to suffer. What a great system the country finds itself in, the party wondered.
SDPI national general secretary Afsar Pasha in a statement said that BJP-led NDA Govt. is abusing CBI for political purpose. This will prove costly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming Bihar elections as the people have realized that BJP is no way different from the Congress.
Pasha said that this is undeclared “Emergency”. What kind of justice Teesta and her friends who fought against Gujarat Carnage can expect from a government which is run by perpetrators of Gujarat pogrom. The rulers think that by targeting Teesta they can divert attention from ModiGate and Vyapam. They are mistaken, he added.
He said that Teesta is paying price of fighting against Modi & his Gujarat Govt. Modi & team is giving message to the nation that this harassment will happen to all who will take a stand against Modi and their party BJP.
Pasha stated that the way BJP is using the police and CBI is very vindictive and need to wait and see the truth. It is a brazen misuse of state powers by the BJP governments in Gujarat and at the Centre. He appealed the civil society to support Setalvad and other activists who have been fighting for the causes of the minorities and marginalized classes against the pro-Hindutwa and pro-Corporate forces.
