SDPI condemns attack on Shaheen Bagh and Jamia protest sites

The Social Demcocratic Party of India, (SDPI), has condemned the attacks on the protest sites of Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Millia in New Delhi during the Janata Curfew on Sunday morning. He also stated it is a matter of great relief that no casualty occurred.

SDPI national president M. K. Faizy in a statement criticised the laxity of police administration of not maintaining proper vigil at the protests sites which have been vulnerable to such attacks in the past also. He said that such attacks are being planned to disrupt the peaceful protests.

The protesters have been following all the guidelines related to Corona virus. Faizy pointed out that the Shaheen Bagh protest itself has joined in the Janata Curfew on Sunday by reducing the people at the site to fewer than five, with sandals symbolically placed on the cots on which the protesters usually sit. Hence the cowardly acts by the miscreants will not dent the resolve of the Shaheen Bagh rightful protestors and those supporting their cause, in person or in absentia.

While, Faizy said, the Jamia Coordination Committee, (JCC), comprising current and former students of the university, had temporarily suspended its sit-in protest against the new citizenship law on Saturday in view of the Corona virus outbreak. But still reportedly a miscreant opened fire and hurled a petrol bomb at the protest site at Jamia Square, Gate No. 7 of the university.
He pointed that the latest assualts at both protest sites once again illustrate Delhi Police failure and duty dereliction on the face democratic and peaceful citizenship agitations.
