CORONA: SDPI CALLS FOR CONSISTENT CONTROL MEASURES, NOT SYMBOLIC ACTS

New Delhi, 21st march 2020: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on Corona Virus pandemic was disappointing. The Corona virus devastation has already taken away more than 10,000 lives globally and has infected over 2 lakh humans. So, the one day “Janta Curfew” on March 22, 2020 will not serve any purpose except to give some publicity to our PM and for what he thrives for, the party said. SDPI National general secretary Abdul Majeed in a statement called the civilized world to fight the COVID-19 through all preventive measures and not to go behind just symbolic acts.

Abdul Majeed said that with 260 reported infections and four deaths so far in the country, is India taking sufficient precautionary steps? Is the world’s second-most populous country is providing the needed testing’s?

India had tested some 14,175 people in 72 state-run labs as of Thursday evening – one of the lowest testing rates in the world. The reason is that the country has limited government testing arrangements. Now only people who have been in touch with an infected person or those who have travelled to high-risk countries or health workers managing patients with severe respiratory disease and those developing Covid-19 symptoms are being quarantined and tested. Only in some states the governments are serious and sufficiently cautious.
SDPI general secretary has advised the people to keep social distancing to maximum extent possible and also to immediately report to concerned corona testing centre as well as society in case of any suspected association with affected people.
