The appointment of Justice S Nazeer reinforces the argument that the government is trying to influence the judiciary, read a press statement issued by Advocate Sharfuddin Ahmad, national vice president of Social Democratic Party of India.

Adv. Ahmad was reacting to the news of appointment of former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice S Abdul Nazeer as governor of Andhra Pradesh.
It should be noted that Justice Nazeer was part of the bench that had unanimously passed the verdict in the 2019 Ayodhya-Babri Masjid dispute that allowed construction of the Ram Mandir.
The appointment of the retired judges of the Supreme Court as governors freshly rekindles the public perception that the appointment of Judges from higher judiciary on constitutional post ignoring the concept of cooling period and hurriedly made by the goverment creates an impression to influence the judiciary, said the SDPI leader. He said that the judiciary should be kept away from political motives keeping in view to maintain the independent judiciary and the strong democracy.
