House Arrest of Kashmiri Leaders, Another Nail on the Coffin of Democracy – MK Faizy
MK Faizy, National President of Social Democratic Party of India strongly denounced the house arrest of top Kashmiri political leaders. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, the three former chief ministers along with other prominent opposition leaders have been put under house arrest since Saturday, to prevent them from protesting against the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission. The act is the reflection of the cowardice of the Hindutva fascists and it is another nail on the coffin of democracy in the country, slammed Faizy. The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration had planned to hold a peaceful demonstration in Srinagar on Saturday against the proposal of the Delimitation Commission to increase six seats in the Jammu division and one in Kashmir. This increase is against the population ratio of both provinces of the former state, the protesters say.The fascist central government has been treating the Kashmiris as foes and their human, fundamental and civil rights are violated and denied ever since the fascists assumed power at the centre. By putting the opposition leaders under house arrest, the central government is brazenly violating the democratic and Constitutional right of freedom for expression of the citizens. The house arrest of the Kashmiri political leaders gives out a clear message that the fascists are afraid of the people. This fear of people by the government should act as an impetus to the people to unitedly resist and defeat fascism in the country, exhorted Faizy.
