Delhi Railway Station Stampede – Government is the Culprit
The stampede in the New Delhi Railway Station that caused the loss of 18 valuable lives is due to the utter failure of the union government. While sharing the grief of the bereaved, SDPI strongly condemns the apathy of the government in ensuring the safety of the passengers.
The tragedy that took place under the nose of the union government in the capital city intensifies the magnitude of the failure of the government.
As per reports, the swelling of the crowd on platforms 14 & 15 was the result of the cancellation of trains to Prayagraj, where the Maha Kumbh Mela was taking place.
The authorities not only failed to foresee the huge number of passengers going for the Mela and arrange a sufficient number of trains but cancelled the scheduled trains as well.
SDPI demands that adequate ex-gratia payments be given to the families of the deceased and the injured, an enquiry conducted to find out the failure of the employees concerned and stringent action taken against the guilty.
