DELEGATION OF SDPI VISITED THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF QASAM ABDULLAH HAYAT IN GODHRA AND DEMANDS JUDICIAL ENQUIRY HEADED BY HIGH COURT JUDGE
New Delhi, 30th Sep 2021: A delegation of SDPI has visited the bereaved family of Late Qasam Abdullah Hayat killed in Police custody in Godhara,Gujarat on 26 September,2021.
Late Qasam Abdullah Hayat 35 years old father of two minor sons Shahid 17 and Imran 10 respectively was interceded when he was coming back from Sewalya, another locality 25 km away from his residence in Mohalla Eidgah, Godhra. Qasam Abdullah Hayat sporting beard, identified as a Muslim and was criminally assaulted by Hindutva goons in complicity with local police on 14th September. He was illegally kept in police station without producing him before the Judicial Magistrate. He was brutally tortured for three days till he died on 16th of September. The photographs taken of his body shows that every part of his body was fatally injured so he couldn’t bear the continuing third decree torture and died on 16th of September in police custody.
Qasim, the brother-in-law of Qasam Hayat and sister of Hayat, Mrs Bilkis had visited the police station to see and serve food to Hayat on 14th. Hayat had narrated about his torture at hands of the In-charge police station H.N.Patel, Sub Inspector NR Rathod, constables Bhasker and Ramesh Sidhraj and also by two notorious cow vigilantes and Hinduwa goons Pragnesh Soni and Pratik Kharadi. Bilal Hayat the elder brother and Sahil, a friend of Qasam Abdullah Hayat have also gone to Police Staion and meet him when under police custody and Qasam Hayat had told them about brutal beatings on 15th of September. Sahil was not allowed the access to Hayat since morning of 16th twice when he wanted to serve the breakfast to Hayat and was forced to leave without serving even the tea. Afternoon on 16th Salim,a policeman visited the house of Hayat to inform Bilal that Qasam had died and when the family members went to Police station, they were informed that Qasam had committed suicide whereas an incident of suicide was stage-managed which if put to a scrutiny, may not stand. Later Hayat was surreptitiously introduced to the public that he was a beef trader after his custodial death inside the police station.
HN Patel had threatened Qasam to kill him in an encounter claiming himself as a master of encounters and it is also reported that the duo Pravesh Soni and Pratik Kharadi ,the notorious Hindutva goons were given free access to beat Qasam in the police station. This duo introducing themselves as cow vigilantes and had been involved in about two hundreds of incidents to torture innocent Muslims in the name of the ‘cow protection’ in the area. It is also reported that dozens of written complaints had been given to police against the duo but no due action was taken against them enjoying police complicity and political protection in Gujarat. The delegation collected true facts from the family of the deceased and assured that all legal and moral help will be provided to bring the culprits to justice. The family is under constant watch and the members of the family have been admonished to keep silence and to remain away from any public protest against the cruelty of the police otherwise they shall suffer more.
The delegation consisted of National Vice President of SDPI Advocate Sharfuddin Ahmad , SDPI Gujarat state In-charge Mr.Abdul Sattar, , SDPI Gujarat President Mr. Avesh, Adv Santosh Jadhav and Ali Inamdar of Maharastra and Mr Shakil from NCHRO Ahmedabad met the bereaved family that has lost the sole bread earner, leaving behind a widow and two minor sons. Neither a government official visited the family and nor any financial help for the survivals received from anywhere as ten days have passed after unfortunate occurrence.
SDPI demands that a judicial enquiry headed by a Hon’ble Judge of High Court be appointed so that the reign of terror unleashed by Hindutva goons, self-styled as Cow vigilantes may be controlled and erring policemen may be brought to book. SDPI also strongly demands that the bereaved family may urgently be compensated with adequate financial aid by the government.
