A large conference was held at Sekhdighi High School ground in Sagardighi in support of SDPI-nominated Grand Alliance candidate Masiur Rahman, backed by the Left Front and ISF. The event witnessed a significant turnout, which speakers described as a reflection of strong anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

ISF Chairman and MLA Nawsad Siddique strongly criticised the Trinamool Congress, predicting its defeat and highlighting the unity of the Left Front, ISF, and SDPI to challenge what he called authoritarian rule and corruption. He urged voters to support Masiur Rahman, appealing for votes on the “envelope” symbol on April 23, and assured that the candidate would remain committed to raising public issues in the Assembly. The conference was also attended by SDPI National General Secretary Riyaz Farangipete, State General Secretary Hasibul Islam, and leader Suman Mondal.

SDPI National Secretary Tayeddul Islam raised local issues, alleging that residents have not benefited from land given for the PDCL project and pointing to mismanagement at the Sagardighi Block Health Centre. SDPI State President Hakul Islam accused the ruling party of manipulating voter lists and called for support to ensure development, including a proposed women’s college and protection for migrant workers. SDPI National Committee member Runa Laila and State Secretary Masudul Islam also addressed the gathering.

CPI(M) District Secretary Jamir Molla, along with CPI(M) District Committee member Jyotirup Banerjee, also participated, calling for unity against what they described as “subtle Hindutva politics” of the ruling party. The programme collectively featured leaders from SDPI, ISF, CPI(M), and allied organisations, all endorsing Masiur Rahman’s candidature.
