Beef Ban in Assam is Infringement of the Right to Choose Food of One’s Choice

The complete ban on the consumption of beef in Assam is a denial of the right to eat what one wants to eat, for mean political gains. This is a ban on not only cow meat but all types of cattle meat including buffalo meat. More than 80% of Assam’s population is non-vegetarian,and beef is a main item in their food habit. Assam CM Himanta Sarma says the decision is with the support of Congress referring to the speeches of Congress MP Rakibul Hussain who had visited different parts of north and upper Assam and alleged that Sarma and the BJP had “betrayed” the Hindutva they claim to espouse by “offering beef” and “pursuing Bengali Muslim voters.” He said this was also a betrayal of the “ethnic Assamese communities” which populate north and upper Assam, and called Sarma “two-faced.”BJP is a party with hard-core Hindutva ideology and they are not hesitant to implement their agenda of hate and hatred against minorities, especially Muslims. But what helps them to easily implement their Hindutva agenda is the dual stand of the Congress that plays the soft-Hindutva card.

Both Congress and BJP are hand in glove to deny constitutional rights to people for their mean political gains
