SDPI Mobilizes Relief Efforts in Flood-Hit Punjab
Mohammad Shafi Urges Stronger Disaster Management and Government Action

The Social Democratic Party of India has activated its workers across flood-ravaged Punjab, where devastating rains have claimed lives, submerged vast farmlands, and displaced thousands. SDPI cadres are engaged in rescue operations, distribution of food and essential relief materials, medical assistance, and rehabilitation efforts in districts including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Tanda, Batala, and Hoshiarpur, as well as flood-hit villages such as Jhagi, Talamandi, and Shahzada.
National Vice President Mohammad Shafi issued a firm call to action, urging party members to prioritize humanitarian service. “Punjab is in pain. Villages submerged, lives lost, homes destroyed, and fields ruined. In this hour of crisis, SDPI stands firmly with the flood-affected people,” he said. Shafi emphasized coordinated work with local authorities and NGOs, stressing urgent support for farmers facing massive crop losses that threaten both livelihoods and food security.

Calling for immediate government intervention, Shafi appealed to both the central and Punjab state governments to provide substantial financial aid, rebuild damaged infrastructure, and introduce long-term support packages. He warned that inadequate preparedness had worsened the disaster and highlighted the growing role of climate change in intensifying such calamities.

Demonstrating cross-state solidarity, SDPI’s Uttar Pradesh unit has deployed teams to Punjab to assist with relief work on the ground. The party also appealed to volunteers and donors nationwide to strengthen rebuilding efforts, ensuring that no affected family is left behind
