An election conclave organised by SDPI was held at Rabindra Sadan in Berhampore as part of the party’s campaign for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections in support of Masiur Rahman, the SDPI candidate from the 60 Sagardighi Assembly constituency. The programme was organised to strengthen the party’s message among the people of Sagardighi ahead of the nomination process.
The conclave was attended by SDPI National President M.K. Faizy, SDPI State President Hakikul Islam, SDPI National Secretary and State Observer Iya Mohiuddin, State Vice President Abdul Qaiyum Khan, State General Secretaries Hasibul Islam and Dr. Kamal Basirujjaman, General Secretary Suman Mondal, Secretaries Masudul Islam and Shabnam Mustari, committee members Md. Asadullah and Habibur, CPI(M) Murshidabad district secretary and Hariharpara Assembly candidate Jamir Molla, representatives of the Women India Movement, and members of Young Democrats, including Ali Akbar Siddiqui, Muddasir Hossain, and Mustaqim Molla.
Addressing the conclave, M.K. Faizy criticised the Centre’s handling of border security, national security, and BJP policies. He said that responsibility for border protection rests with central agencies and questioned who should be held accountable for repeated failures. Alleging that the BJP was attempting to use divisive issues to politically capture West Bengal, he also raised questions about the Centre’s role in security matters, including Kashmir, while referring to remarks made by Amit Shah. He strongly criticised communal politics and called for greater accountability from the Central Government.
Hakikul Islam said that SDPI had emerged as an important political force in West Bengal and remained committed to serving the people. Referring to the party’s campaign against the Waqf Bill, he said SDPI had organised protest programmes at more than one hundred locations across the country and would continue the movement in the coming days. He added that the party had strengthened its organisation in several constituencies and was fully prepared for electoral success.
Jamir Molla praised SDPI’s political struggle and said CPI(M) would extend full support to ensure the party’s victory in Sagardighi. Hasibul Islam urged party workers to move forward with confidence and work towards building a progressive state.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kamal Basirujjaman. Following the conclave, a massive rally began from the Rabindra Sadan premises and proceeded to the District Magistrate’s Office in Berhampore, where Masiur Rahman formally filed his nomination papers as the SDPI candidate from Sagardighi with the support of CPI(M)-led Left parties and the Indian Secular Front.
