Hitting out at the BJP government over its lack of respect for women including female athletes to act on charges of sexual assault, Abdul Majeed Faizy, national general secretary of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded immediate suspension and arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, chief of the national Wresting Federation of India (WFI) for the alleged sexual charges on him by some of the top women wrestlers of the country.

He said that a number of wrestlers and other sportspersons have been protesting at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since last few days demanding to file FIR and take action against the BJP MP and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh against whom there are over three dozen different cases which includes charges of sexual harassment by none other than a number of the country’s top athletes. Faizy said that this has damaged India’s image as a good sporting nation.

SDPI demands immediate arrest of the present WFI chief and a high level inquiry into the charges. He further said that SDPI stands in solidarity with wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and others in their demand.

The SDPI leader also raised questions over the long delay in registering FIR by Delhi police against Singh. If star wresters’ demand to file FIR is not listened, one can imagine what would happen to such cases of common women, he said.
