SDPI Visits Violence-Affected Areas of Murshidabad, Meets Families of the Deceased

In the aftermath of recent communal clashes and violent incidents in the Samserganj, Suti, and Dhulian areas of Murshidabad district, a delegation from the Social Democratic Party of India visited the affected regions today. The delegation included the party’s National Secretary Tayidul Islam, State General Secretary Dr. Kamal Basiruzaman, and Hasibul Islam.

The team met with the families of Hargobinda Das and Chandan Das, who were brutally killed in the Samserganj violence, and expressed deep condolences. They also visited the family of Ijaz Ahmed, who was killed in police firing in Kashem Nagar, Suti, and assured them of the party’s support.

Following the visit, SDPI National Secretary Tayidul Islam stated that discussions with local residents revealed strong indications of a political conspiracy behind the violence. He raised concerns over the role of the local police, alleging that the silence and biased actions of the police enabled BJP-aligned miscreants to take advantage of the situation. He added that it was only after the intervention of senior administrative officials from Kolkata that the situation began to calm down.

Residents continue to live in fear. Multiple allegations have surfaced against central forces, claiming they are entering homes under the pretext of night patrols, assaulting residents, misbehaving with women, and looting ornaments and valuables. SDPI strongly condemned such actions, calling them unacceptable in a democratic society and violations of basic human rights.

It is particularly unfortunate, the party noted, that local leaders and workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress have been largely inactive during this crisis. Their silence has caused deep dissatisfaction among the general public.

SDPI made it clear that this was not a Hindu-Muslim riot. The ongoing nationwide protests against the repeal of the Waqf Act had also reached Samserganj, where a group of youths organized a protest rally. According to local residents, many participants were outsiders. The situation was then deliberately provoked, allegedly by BJP-backed miscreants, leading to planned violence and an atmosphere of fear.

SDPI also expressed serious concern over the arrests of innocent youths. Several individuals have reportedly been picked up, but neither their families nor legal representatives have been informed of their whereabouts. The party demanded that all arrested persons be immediately produced in court and that unlawful detentions be brought to an end.

SDPI has called for a high-level, impartial investigation into the entire incident. The party is also demanding strict action against the perpetrators, adequate compensation and rehabilitation for affected families, and swift, effective steps from the administration to ensure the safety and security of the local population.
