SDPI TO OBSERVE NATION-WIDE PROTEST ON AUG. 9 AS FASCISM QUIT INDIA DAY

New Delhi 07 Aug 2019: The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), has decided to observe the Quit India Day as Fascism Quit India Day to nation-wide protest the changes made in UAPA, NIA, RTI Acts and dismembering Kashmir through Amendments passed by both the Houses of Parliament. The Amendments were got passed hurriedly by the ruling BJP-led NDA Government while undermining the Opposition unity by breaking their ranks.

SDPI national general secretary Abdul Majeed in a statement said that the Amendments made in the National Investigation Agency (Amendment), Bill 2019 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill, 2019, amounts to violation of fundamental rights of an individual as enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The Amendments have empowered the governments to designate individuals as terrorists.

Similarly, Abdul Majeed said, the RTI Act has been amended to water down its effectiveness. The institution of RTI has been compromised with the terms governing the commissioners have gone into the hands of the politicians. The act of the central Govt. abrogating Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution, applicable to Jammu and Kashmir, has trampled upon the rights of the Kashmiri people.

Abdul Majeed pointed out, It is very clear that the government has tried to appease the Hindutva Right. By this draconian and highly insensitive action the Home Minister Amit Shah has alienated even the moderate sections of Kashmiri leadership and sends the message that people’s democratic rights can be suppressed through the use of military.

Meanwhile, it may be recalled here that the Quit India Movement also known as Bharat “Chodo Andolan” was launched, after Mahatma Gandhi gave the call of ‘Do or Die’ on August 8, 1942 demanding an end to British Rule in India. Abdul Majeed stated that the current situation demands joint efforts to save India from clutches of fascism, a new Fascism Quit India Movement.
