Mohammad Shafi Demands Immediate Release of Pappu Yadav
The Social Democratic Party of India unequivocally condemns the politically motivated and vindictive arrest of Independent Bihar MP Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav) in a decades old 1995 forgery case. The midnight raid on February 6, 2026, at his Mandiri residence in Patna exemplifies the misuse of state machinery to intimidate and silence dissenting voices.
This arrest arises from a 31 year old complaint registered at Gardanibagh police station alleging the fraudulent renting of a property and its conversion into an MP office without the landlord’s knowledge. Despite the age of the case, the timing is highly suspicious, coming immediately after Yadav’s persistent demands in Parliament and on the ground for justice in the shocking death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna. The incident raised serious concerns about women’s safety, hostel security, and alleged lapses in the Bihar government’s handling of the matter.
Yadav has consistently exposed systemic failures and demanded accountability. His arrest, amid allegations of police misconduct, the presence of non uniformed officers, and threats to his life, reflects a troubling pattern of targeting vocal critics through the selective revival of dormant cases. This is another instance of political vendetta intended to suppress demands for transparency and justice.
Such actions undermine democratic principles and erode public trust in law enforcement. The SDPI demands the immediate release of Pappu Yadav, an independent inquiry into the circumstances of his arrest, and an end to revenge politics that weaponizes the legal system against those defending the rights of the marginalized and vulnerable.
