Liquor in Lakshadweep – Plan to Disrupt Peace on the Island

Lakshadweep is an island where liquor ban has been in force since 1979. This ban was enforced in response to the majority Muslim community’s requests to preserve their cultural integrity. Although this situation has not changed ever since the liquor prohibition, the Kerala State Beverages Corporation has exported large quantities of liquor to the island following the request from a tourism promotion body.In many states in India, including Gujarat, a liquor ban is in effect. And it seems that the rulers don’t want to promote tourism in these states by tantalizing the tourists with liquor.SDPI strongly denounces the ‘liquorisation’ of Lakshadweep, which will disrupt the peaceful vibe in the Island, and demands that the decision be revoked at once.
