
It’s for sure, that journalists with guts who exercise their duty without fearing the repercussions need security in their job. Such journalists in India are on the brink of extinction. The report of the Press Council that “Five journalists were killed and 226 others were targeted by state agencies, non-state political actors, anti-social elements and criminals across India during 2023,” is shocking and it depicts the insecurity of the daring journalists. These statistics should be read with the World Press Freedom Index 2024 which ranks India 159 out of 180 countries.
