Gaza is Starving to Death SDPI Demands End to Israeli Siege
The Social Democratic Party of India resolutely condemns the relentless and egregious atrocities committed by Israel against the people of Gaza, intensified since the collapse of the January 19, 2025, ceasefire. The near-total blockade imposed on March 2, 2025, has deliberately starved over two million Palestinians, resulting in 57 deaths from hunger and placing 290,000 children at imminent risk of starvation, a clear violation of international humanitarian law and a potential war crime. Israeli airstrikes and ground operations, including attacks on hospitals, schools, and displacement shelters—such as the May 16–20, 2025, strikes killing 87–146 Palestinians daily and a Gaza City shelter attack claiming 22 lives—demonstrate a blatant disregard for civilian lives. The designation of 70% of Gaza as “no-go zones,” coupled with forced displacement and statements from Israeli officials raises grave concerns of ethnic cleansing. The SDPI stands in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, who endure a humanitarian catastrophe of unprecedented scale, marked by relentless bombardment, starvation, and the destruction of 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure. The targeting of civilian infrastructure, such as the Khan Younis hospital strike on May 13, 2025, and the complete collapse of operational hospitals in northern Gaza, violates the principles of distinction and proportionality enshrined in international law. The International Court of Justice’s ongoing investigation into allegations of genocide and the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants for Israeli leaders underscore the urgent need for accountability. Israel’s claim that Hamas uses civilians as human shields cannot justify the systematic and disproportionate attacks that have killed over 52,928 Palestinians, including nearly 3,000 since March 18, 2025, with women and children comprising over half the casualties. We demand an immediate and permanent end to Israel’s war on Gaza, the lifting of the inhumane blockade, and unrestricted access for humanitarian aid to prevent further starvation and loss of life. The international community, including the United Nations and influential powers, must enforce a ceasefire, hold Israel accountable for its actions, and ensure justice for the Palestinian people. These atrocities, which risk further destabilizing the region, must cease through concerted global action. The SDPI calls for worldwide solidarity to protect Palestinian lives, uphold their right to self-determination, and foster a just peace rooted in human rights and international law.Mohammad Shafi National Vice President Social Democratic Party of India
