SDPI strongly condemns the ill-treatment of Muslim and Dalit students in a government school in Delhi. The trauma inflicted on the Dalit and Muslim students, especially Muslim students in this school is horrendous and warrants severe punishment for the culprits. The third-degree treatment inflicted on Muslim students by some wretched-minded teachers is a disgrace to the entire teacher fraternity who are supposed to instil respect for each other and a noble culture in the students. Muslim and SC students, in this school, are targeted and seated on the back bench and upper caste students are allotted seats on the front bench. Muslim students are asked to leave the country while SC students are told that they don’t have the right to education, were born to serve Pandits do labour and run vendors.In a letter to the Supreme Court lawyer Ashok Agarwal during his visit to the school, the students said they are beaten up regularly. They are thrashed after removing their pants in the locked bathroom. They are threatened that their nude video will be made viral. The teachers also threatened to remove their names from the school if they complained to anyone. Students feel that if they complain to the principal, they will be thrashed more. Students also say that teachers threaten them to deduct their marks in the examination failing them to pass the class. The students also wrote a letter to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and Delhi chief minister detailing their precarious treatment at the hands of teachers who are showing animosity against Muslims and called them ‘Mulla’, Katwa” forcing them to say “Jai Shri Ram.”Their behaviour is beyond the limits of any sort of treatment and the only remedy to give solace to the victims and keep the dignity of the teacher fraternity high is to dismiss the guilty from service and initiate strong criminal cases against them.
