Detention in the Same Class is Not the Solution
As always, it will be the marginalised and the groups outside the boundary of the mainstream that will be adversely affected by the union government’s decision to withdraw the ‘no-detention’ policy for Classes 5 and 8. Detaining a student for not scoring the cutoff mark to pass an examination is not the proper way to improve his knowledge. Learning the same thing for another year also will not help the student in gaining more knowledge. However, the act will adversely affect the student psychologically and cause to increase the number of dropouts.
SDPI demands the union government withdraw this decision if they really want to achieve the RTE goal.
