Caste Census a Triumph of People’s Struggle, Not BJP’s Achievement

The Social Democratic Party of India hails the Modi government’s decision to include caste enumeration in the 2025 census, announced today, as a triumph of the people’s relentless agitation, spearheaded by the SDPI and opposition parties. The BJP, which long opposed this demand, has no right to claim credit. Its abrupt U-turn, timed to coincide with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s “Batti Gul” Waqf protest tonight, is a blatant attempt to shift focus from Bihar election challenges, the Pahalgam terror attack’s security lapses, and widespread protests against the Waqf Amendment Act.

The SDPI’s unwavering street protests played a pivotal role in forcing this policy shift. We demand a transparent, tamper-free census that truly uplifts marginalized communities, not one manipulated for BJP’s political gains.
