BJP Regime Misusing Agencies to Suppress the Voice of Dissent: SDPI
Jaipur, March 25, 2025 – Accusing the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to suppress dissent, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has strongly condemned the arrest of its National President, MK Faizi, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Speaking at a press conference at the Pink City Press Club in Jaipur, SDPI leaders alleged that the ruling regime is systematically targeting opposition voices through politically motivated cases and draconian laws.
They claimed that the government is weaponizing laws such as the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and National Security Act (NSA) to intimidate those who challenge its policies. Faizi’s arrest, they argued, is part of a broader crackdown on dissenting political organizations and activists.
According to SDPI, the regime has been particularly unsettled by the party’s nationwide protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill, as well as its criticism of unemployment, price hikes, mob lynching, bulldozer politics, and increasing lawlessness. The party asserted that the government is attempting to demoralize SDPI leaders, cadres, and supporters through baseless accusations and politically driven arrests.
“The arrest of MK Faizi is a desperate attempt to silence SDPI and intimidate those who oppose the government’s partisan and oppressive policies,” said Elyas Thumbe, National General Secretary of SDPI. He further stated that despite raids on SDPI offices and leaders, the ED has failed to produce any incriminating evidence, exposing the politically motivated nature of the investigation.
Other SDPI leaders present at the press conference, including Yasmin Farouqi, Sadashiv Tripathi, Azhar Tamboli, and Dr. Shahabuddin, echoed similar concerns, calling on opposition parties to unite against what they described as the BJP’s authoritarian and sectarian rule.
The party vowed to continue its fight for democracy and constitutional rights, urging citizens and political groups to stand against state-sponsored repression.
