CEC Gyanesh Kumar Must Resign; Supreme Court Must Halt Voter Deletions

The shocking revelations by The Indian Express into the functioning of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) provide ample proof that the CEC has acted with nefarious intent to delete voters through the SIR. The objections recorded at least 14 times by the other two Election Commissioners—Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi—between October 2025 and August 2026 expose that many decisions, including those on the SIR, were taken without their knowledge.

The assembly election results in West Bengal and Delhi show that the winning margins were nearly equal to the votes flagged under “logical discrepancies.” After the announcement of the assembly elections, over 90% of appeals against deletions were upheld, confirming that the lakhs of voters struck off were genuine.

Despite relentless protests, appeals, and warnings from civil society and the opposition, the CEC has adamantly executed the SIR only to benefit the Union regime. This is nothing less than an assassination of democracy—an unpardonable act. Hence, Gyanesh Kumar must resign immediately, and the Supreme Court must halt voter deletions until the matter is investigated transparently.
