Government Must Answer How Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Was Acquitted in Women Wrestlers’ Sexual Harassment Case: Yasmin Farooqui
Yasmin Farooqui, National General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India, expressed deep concern over the acquittal of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar in the women wrestlers’ sexual harassment case. Yasmin Farooqui said the prosecution’s failure to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt exposes glaring failures in the investigation and prosecution. The Union Government must explain how a case involving multiple complainants against a politically influential individual collapsed because of inconsistencies, contradictions and delays in the evidence, raising serious questions about the integrity and commitment of the investigative process.
Yasmin Farooqui said the Government cannot evade responsibility by merely citing the court’s verdict because the collapse of the prosecution reflects institutional failure. When grave allegations end in investigative and prosecutorial lapses, it creates a widespread perception that the powerful receive protection while survivors are denied justice. Yasmin Farooqui demanded an independent judicial review to fix accountability and restore public confidence in the justice system.
