The Social Democratic Party of India strongly condemns the Union Government’s continued indifference towards the indefinite hunger strike of Sonam Wangchuk. Allowing a respected social reformer to risk his life while peacefully raising concerns over examination integrity and the constitutional rights of the people of Ladakh is a grave failure of democratic responsibility. A government committed to democracy must respond through dialogue, not silence.

The refusal to address genuine public concerns has weakened trust in institutions and deepened public anxiety. The SDPI urges the Union Government to immediately engage with Sonam Wangchuk, address the concerns of students and Ladakh with sincerity, and uphold democratic values by ensuring justice, accountability, and meaningful consultation.
