The National Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party of India convened on February 6 and 7 at the Central Office in Delhi and passed the following resolution:

Proposed Indo–US Trade Deal Is Destructive

The proposed USD 500 billion Indo–US trade deal is not in the interest of India. The deal includes the import of agricultural and dairy products from the United States, which will severely harm India’s farm sector.

Imposing an 18% tariff on Indian products while granting zero or minimal tariff concessions to US products would be disastrous for the Indian economy. Further, any condition imposed by former US President Donald Trump that India must stop purchasing oil from Russia amounts to a direct interference in the sovereignty of our country.

This National Secretariat meeting of SDPI resolves that the Union government should shun the proposed Indo–US trade deal in the larger national interest.
