Yasmin Farooqui Slams BJP-Led Haryana Govt Over Massive Irregularities in Women Welfare Schemes

Yasmin Farooqui, National General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India, strongly criticized the BJP-led government in Haryana for systemic financial irregularities and its failure to ensure women’s empowerment and safety.

She pointed to alarming lapses in governance, particularly the misuse of welfare schemes meant for the girl child. Citing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, Yasmin Farooqui highlighted excess payments of Rs 15.54 crore under the Aapki Beti Hamari Beti scheme, caused by duplicate registrations and weak verification systems. The CAG audit for March 2023 flagged over 7,400 duplicate cases, leading to wasteful expenditure. “Such negligence erodes public trust and deprives genuine beneficiaries,” Yasmin said, noting the absence of accountability under the present administration.

Turning to women’s safety, Yasmin rejected government claims of progress. She noted that according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Haryana records nearly 19 crimes against women every day—including murder, rape, gang rape, and kidnapping. The state consistently ranks among the least safe for women, with crime rates above the national average. In 2022, India’s crime rate against women stood at 67 per lakh population, but Haryana’s contribution was disproportionately high. “Government rhetoric cannot hide the reality,” she said, citing ongoing protests such as the case of Manisha, where public demands for justice have been ignored.

Yasmin Farooqui demanded an independent probe into the Aapki Beti Hamari Beti irregularities, recovery of misused funds, and strict action against responsible officials. She asserted that the people of Haryana deserve transparent, accountable, and effective governance.

“The SDPI will continue to expose administrative failures and advocate for genuine empowerment and security for women,” Yasmin Farooqui concluded.
