SDPI condemns the demolition near Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid at Turkman Gate A deliberate assault on Waqf property.
The Delhi High Court passed its order on 12 November 2025, despite the fact that a 1970 Gazette notification clearly records this land as Waqf property. Shockingly, the Delhi Waqf Board was not even made a party to the case, and no review petition was filed. The court ended up deciding the title of the mosque when it had no jurisdiction to do so.
Acting on this flawed order, the MCD launched a demolition drive in the early hours of 7 January 2026, causing loss to Waqf assets and unrest in the locality.
This is not an isolated incident — it shows a clear pattern:
– In BJP-ruled states, Waqf Boards routinely fail to present facts in court,
– Cases go uncontested and Muslim religious properties are gradually taken over through procedural manipulation.
The Waqf Act, passed with the backing of the ruling alliance, has turned into a black law — now being used to target mosques, graveyards, and community institutions. What happened in Delhi is only the beginning unless people raise their voice.
SDPI demands:
-Immediate status-quo restoration at the site
– Accountability for the demolition and compensation for losses to Waqf property
– Urgent legal action — including moving the Supreme Court — to protect every inch of Waqf land
People must understand the reality and send a strong democratic message to those in power through their votes.
