Israel Will Pay a Price for its Gaza Atrocities

The recent announcements by France, the United Kingdom and Canada that they plan to recognize the Palestinian state as early as next month is a clear indication that Israel’s continuing brutalities in Gaza have started to put pressure even on its former allies to take action to stop these atrocities.

The Israeli authorities have been absolutely unmindful of the global public opinion as they unleashed a genocidal war on the people of Gaza during the past two years. Despite calls for a ceasefire, Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have been continuing their violence on unarmed people of Gaza clamoring for food and basic necessities. Now the world is convinced that Israel’s objective in Gaza is to wipe the area clean of its people. They would apply every ruthless tactic to achieve their aim.

But the world is also witnessing a massive pushback from people everywhere, who are coming out into the streets in massive numbers to protest these atrocities. They demand justice for the people of Palestine who have been subjected to untold miseries by the imperialist powers and their sidekick Israel in the past many decades. It is now evident that even the influential Western powers are forced to look for a solution to the unfolding human tragedy. The decisions by two of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — France and UK– and Canada about recognising the Palestinian state is a big step forward to find a solution based on the two states formula.

With France and UK joining hands with Russia and China — who have recognised the Palestinian state — the only country in the UN Security Council who still supports Israeli atrocities will be the United States. Only its single veto will remain there to defend Israel against global public opinion. It is also possible that the warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be enforced in the near future, as more and more countries join the chorus that condemns Israel and its illegal and nefarious activities. It is to be remembered that global public opinion is a force to reckon with, as the imperialists released in the days of Vietnam war and the occupation of countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, etc, which ended in disaster for the occupying forces.

It is also to be noted that for India, this is the time to introspect on its policies and distance itself from the US and Israel and reassert its sovereignty and international status, which the country had surrendered before imperialist forces hoping for benefits in return. The country’s pro American and pro Israeli shift in policies has been in full display ever since the BJP Government came to power. But such shameless capitulation has given the country no benefits. Instead it has made India a global laughing stock. Now that the US President Donald Trump has hit Indian authorities hard on the matter of bilateral trade, India should realise its folly and take a more realistic and bold stand on global issues upholding justice and human dignity.
