Aligarh Mob Attack: SDPI Calls to Dismantle Networks Fueling Communal Violence

Yasmin Farooqui, National General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India, strongly condemns the horrific attack on four individuals in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on May 24, 2025, over baseless suspicions of transporting cow meat. This brutal act of mob violence, reportedly involving members of right-wing group Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Sena, is a stark manifestation of the growing menace of cow vigilantism that disproportionately targets Muslims and marginalized communities. The assault, which involved setting the victims’ vehicle ablaze and blocking the Delhi-Kanpur road, underscores a dangerous erosion of law and order, emboldened by divisive communal rhetoric that threatens India’s secular ethos.

The SDPI demands an immediate, transparent, and impartial investigation to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. The filing of an FIR against unidentified persons is wholly inadequate, especially when eyewitnesses have reportedly named the attackers. Prompt arrests and stringent punishment are critical to deter such heinous acts and restore public trust. The Uttar Pradesh government must prioritize citizen safety and dismantle networks fueling communal violence, as seen in recurring incidents across the state.
