Israel Must Stop the Genocide in Gaza

Mohammad Shafi, National Vice President of the Social Democratic Party of India vehemently condemns Israel’s genocidal ground offensive in Gaza City, launched on September 16, 2025, hours after a UN Commission of Inquiry confirmed Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute genocide. As tanks and troops devastate the city, home to 900,000 Palestinians, this assault escalates a campaign of systematic extermination, marked by mass civilian deaths, forced displacement, and destruction of vital infrastructure. The UN report cites Israel’s deliberate starvation policies, bombings, and blockades as evidence of intent to destroy the Palestinian people, violating the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Over 30 Palestinians were killed in the initial hours, pushing Gaza’s death toll beyond 64,000. Thousands are fleeing southward, facing permanent displacement amid a humanitarian collapse—lacking food, water, and shelter.

Compounding this outrage, Israel’s actions defy the UN General Assembly’s resolution on September 12, 2025, endorsing the “New York Declaration” for a two-state solution. Supported by 142 nations, it outlines steps for a sovereign Palestinian state, an immediate Gaza ceasefire—demands Israel rejected while intensifying its assault. Backed by the U.S., Israel’s impunity undermines global calls for peace and accountability.

The SDPI, having repeatedly condemned Israel’s atrocities, demands urgent action: an immediate arms embargo, referrals to the International Court of Justice, and humanitarian aid for Gaza. India must lead in upholding Palestinian rights, consistent with its historic stance. Silence is complicity; the world must act to halt this genocide. The Palestinian struggle for survival is a call for global justice.
