SDPI Condemns Modi Regime’s Betrayal of Palestine at UNGA
The Social Democratic Party of India stands in resolute condemnation of the Modi government’s decision to abstain from the United Nations General Assembly resolution on June 12, 2025, which called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and urgent humanitarian aid. With 149 nations supporting this plea to end a crisis that has claimed over 55,000 Palestinian lives—mostly women and children—and left half a million facing starvation due to Israel’s blockade, India’s refusal to stand with justice is a painful betrayal of its historic solidarity with Palestine.
This abstention reveals a troubling shift in India’s foreign policy, as the Modi regime prioritizes defense ties with Israel, evident in its reliance on Israeli military technology during recent conflicts. By siding with only 18 other nations, including those aligned with Israel and the US, India turns a blind eye to Israel’s violations, including its ban on UNRWA, despite India’s $35 million contribution to the agency.
The SDPI reaffirms its unwavering support for Palestinian self-determination. We urge the Modi government to endorse the ceasefire, recommit to a two-state solution, and actively engage in the upcoming French-Saudi conference for peace. We call on all Indians to demand that our nation upholds humanity and justice now.
Elyas Muhammad Thumbe,
National General Secretary
