ROLLBACK THE LPG LOOT

The Social Democratic Party of India strongly protests the latest increase of Rs 29 in the price of domestic LPG cylinders. This comes after a series of recent hikes that have pushed up cooking gas prices by nearly Rs 89 since March. A family using one cylinder every month will now have to spend more than Rs 1,000 extra annually compared to the beginning of the year. At a time when households are already struggling with rising costs of food, electricity, healthcare and education, the continued increase in essential fuel prices is unacceptable and places an unbearable burden on ordinary people.

The government has repeatedly celebrated the expansion of LPG connections as a major welfare achievement, but access to clean cooking fuel becomes meaningless when millions cannot afford regular refills. Rising prices undermine the very objective of ensuring clean and safe cooking for all and disproportionately affect poor and middle class families. The SDPI demands an immediate rollback of the latest hike and effective measures to make cooking gas affordable for every household.
