Modi Government’s Strategic Missteps Put India’s Energy Lifelines at Risk
Sadia Sayeda, National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India, has held the Modi government responsible for the worsening fuel crisis that is now disrupting households, small businesses and the hospitality sector across the country. She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel and the signing of extensive military agreements with the government of Benjamin Netanyahu have strained India’s longstanding strategic relationship with Iran. According to her, this shift has weakened India’s diplomatic balance and compromised the country’s ability to safeguard its energy interests at a time of escalating tensions in West Asia.
Sadia Sayeda stated that the government’s silence over reports of the massacre of schoolchildren in Iran and the targeted assassinations of senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, reflects a troubling departure from the principles of justice and non alignment that once guided India’s foreign policy. She pointed out that while countries such as Bangladesh have already secured assurances for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, India has not yet obtained any confirmed guarantees, leaving the country’s vital energy supply routes exposed during a period of heightened geopolitical tension.
She said the consequences are already visible in the form of LPG shortages, panic buying, long queues and the shutdown of restaurants and small eateries in several areas. The Social Democratic Party of India has demanded that the government urgently reassess its foreign policy approach, protect India’s energy security and ensure that the livelihoods of ordinary citizens are not endangered by geopolitical alignments that place the country at a strategic disadvantage.
