SDPI Appeals to All Political Parties to Ensure a Productive Parliament Session in the Interest of Citizens
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has appealed to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, the principal opposition Indian National Congress, and all other political parties to ensure that the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament is conducted in a constructive and meaningful manner, keeping the interests of citizens above partisan considerations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, SDPI said the Budget Session, beginning Wednesday with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of both Houses, comes at a time when the country is facing serious economic, social, and democratic challenges. “Parliament is the highest forum of democratic expression. It must not be reduced to a battleground for political point-scoring, but should function as a platform for genuine debate and accountability,” the party said.
SDPI noted that issues such as unemployment, inflation, agrarian distress, foreign policy challenges, federal relations, voter list revisions, public health, environmental concerns, and the protection of constitutional institutions demand serious discussion. “Citizens expect their elected representatives to debate policies that directly affect their lives, not to allow disruptions to overshadow substance,” the statement said.
The party also urged the government to place its full legislative and policy agenda transparently before Parliament and respond to questions raised by the Opposition in a democratic spirit. At the same time, SDPI appealed to opposition parties to raise issues firmly but responsibly, ensuring that parliamentary time is utilised effectively.
“With the Union Budget to be presented during this session, the people of India are looking to Parliament for answers on jobs, social security, pensions, and equitable economic growth,” SDPI said, adding that democratic institutions are strengthened not by confrontation alone, but by dialogue rooted in constitutional values.
SDPI reiterated that a productive Parliament session is essential to uphold democracy and protect the rights and aspirations of citizens across the country.
