Indore Water Tragedy — Accountability Must Begin at the Top
Seven lives lost. More than a hundred people hospitalised.
Because sewage mixed with drinking water — in Indore, the city repeatedly showcased as “India’s cleanest.”
This is not an accident.
This is systemic negligence and a total collapse of governance.
When citizens fall sick from their own tap water, the truth is clear:
warnings were ignored, systems failed — and those in power refused accountability.
For years, Indore has been wrapped in rankings and PR campaigns. Today, that narrative has collapsed. Awards were protected — people were not.
Indore-1 MLA Kailash Vijayvargiya has controlled this city’s civic and political machinery for decades — corporator, mayor, MLA and now a Cabinet Minister. If Indore was truly a “model city” under his leadership, this tragedy would not have happened. Instead of remorse, he was seen talking down to journalists when questions were raised.
Leadership means accepting responsibility — not hiding behind slogans.
SDPI demands the immediate resignation of Kailash Vijayvargiya and a transparent probe fixing political accountability, not just scapegoating officials.
We also demand full disclosure of water safety reports and lifelong medical support for affected families.
Indore’s grief cannot be managed with PR. Lives were lost — someone must answer.
