New Delhi 23 January 2015: SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India) subscribed to and extended unconditional support to the fight carried on by Ambedkar Students’s Association (ASA) and led by now JAC (Joint Action Committee) with regards to the ousting of the 5 Dalit students by the Hyderabad University administration and subsequent unfortunate incident of one of the students’ death. SDPI had protested on 18th of January at Jantar Mantar in the national capital by holding a massive dharna against Late Rohith Vemula and in support of other brave fighters of ASA, who have taken the cudgels on behalf of the weaker and exploited sections of society in India. The party leadership had termed the death of Rohit Vemula as institutional killing and that SDPI launched a nationwide agitation in this regard including that of Kerala, Karnataka, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
SDPI pledged full solidarity in the fight against injustice to Dalits and supported the demands made by JAC. SDPI also assured its full might throughout the country to the movement to stand against the social disparity, political discriminations and administrative partisanship that was evidently seen by the Hyderabad University Administration under the pressure by the Ministry of HRD and a union minister with the nexus of BJP leadership and ABVP goons.
SDPI delegation led by its Vice President Adv. Sharfuddin Ahamad visited the university campus to pay condolence to the members of the family of Late Rohit Vemula and his colleagues in this fight and also to meet the leadership of JAC to assure the party’s support in the struggle against injustice and inequality in all the respects.
The delegation comprised of several Dalit leaders of the party’s national council and state councils of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
